What is Scankaro?+
Scankaro is a free online tool that helps you prepare the front and back sides of ID or document images into a single A4-ready layout for printing or sharing.
Can I scan an ID card using my phone camera?+
Yes. Scankaro can access your device camera directly in the browser. Tap "Scan with Camera" on either the front or back panel, capture the image, and confirm.
Can I upload images from my computer?+
Yes. Click "Upload File" on either panel to select a JPG, PNG, or WebP image from your device. You can also drag and drop an image onto the upload area.
What image formats does Scankaro support?+
Scankaro supports JPEG, PNG, and WebP images for upload. The final A4 layout can be downloaded as a JPG, PNG, or PDF file.
How do I crop an image?+
After adding an image, the editor opens automatically. Go to the Crop tab, enable the crop box if needed, then drag the corner handles to select the area you want to keep. Click Apply when done.
Does cropping work on mobile or touch devices?+
Yes. The crop corner handles support touch dragging. Place your finger directly on a corner handle and drag to resize the crop area. The crop box stays within the image boundaries and maintains a minimum size.
Can I rotate an image?+
Yes. In the Rotate tab you can rotate in 90-degree increments, use a fine-rotation slider for precise angles, or click "Auto Straighten" for automatic correction.
How does auto-straighten work?+
Auto Straighten analyzes the edges in your image to detect if the document is tilted, then rotates it to correct small angles (up to 15 degrees). If it cannot confidently detect an angle, it leaves the image unchanged.
Can I prepare both front and back sides of a document?+
Yes. Scankaro is designed specifically for this. Add the front image to the Front panel and the back image to the Back panel, then generate the A4 layout to combine both on one page.
What is the A4 layout?+
The A4 layout arranges your front and back images onto a single page sized for A4 printing. You can choose a side-by-side or top-and-bottom arrangement.
Does Scankaro preserve image quality?+
Scankaro processes images at their original resolution and renders the A4 canvas at 300 DPI (2480 x 3508 pixels) to preserve quality for printing. Enhancement presets apply adjustments like brightness and contrast without downsizing.
How do I download the final document?+
After generating the A4 layout, download buttons appear below the preview. You can download as JPG, PNG, or PDF. The downloaded file matches the preview exactly.
Which browsers does Scankaro support?+
Scankaro works in modern browsers including Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge on both desktop and mobile. Camera access requires a secure (HTTPS) connection and browser permission.
Are my images uploaded to a server?+
No. Scankaro processes all images locally in your browser using HTML canvas. Your images are not uploaded to or stored on any server.
Does Scankaro require an account?+
No. Scankaro does not require registration, login, or any personal information to use.
Can I edit an image after generating the A4 layout?+
Yes. Click Edit on either panel to reopen the editor, make changes, and click Apply. Then click "Generate A4 Layout" again to update the preview with your latest edits.
